ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Wednesday night at Blue Cross arena, the Rochester Americans hosted the Charlotte Checkers in a damn fine hockey game. The Amerks put up a strong effort all night, but the Checkers came out victorious winning 4-3.

Erik Brannstrom scored his first goal as an Amerk just one minute into the game. He had recently been traded on a one-for-one deal, sending Nicolas Aube-Kubel to the Rangers organization and joining the Hartford Wolf Pack. Halfway through the first, CJ Smith scored for the Checkers to even things up.

In the second period John Leonard scored for the Checkers on the power play. Later in the period a large scrum took place after the play, and Amerks Brett Murray dropped the mitts with Checkers Mikulas Hovorka. Murray dropped two definitive bombs, and the small crowd at Blue Cross Arena went nuts. Later in the period Kale Clague scored for the Amerks on the power play to even things up.

Ben Steeves scored for the Checkers on the power play in the third to give the Checkers the lead. Lukas Rousek was awarded a penalty shot for the Amerks, but his shot went off the post. John Leonard scored for the Checkers on an empty net to secure the win. However, the Amerks would not go without a fight and Brannstrom scored a third and final goal for the Amerks.

Kaapo Kahkonen secured the win for the Checkers stopping 21 of 24 shots faced. Devon Levi stopped 19 of 22 shots faced for the Amerks.
