CEDAR PARK, Texas – Friday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Coachella Valley Firebirds 4-3 in a close match-up that ended in overtime.
It was Star Wars night at the H-E-B Center, featuring special Star Wars-themed jerseys, characters from the franchise roaming the concourse, and light saber battles during intermission.

The Firebirds got off to a quick start, with two goals from Jimmy Schuldt and Shane Wright on seven shots, ending the night for Stars goaltender Remi Poirier, who was replaced with Matt Murray. Keaton Mastrodonato would score his first career AHL goal and Mavrik Bourque tallied his 16th to tie the game 2-2.
In the second period, the two teams traded goals. The Firebirds regained the lead with a shorthanded goal from John Hayden and the Stars countered back with a goal from Kyle McDonald tieing it 3-3.
Neither team would score in the third sending it to overtime where Stars Logan Stankoven netted his 20th goal of the season with just six seconds left in OT. Murray picked up the win saving 15 of 16 shots and Chris Driedger took the loss saving 27 of 31.
