CEDAR PARK, Texas. – Friday night, the visiting Coachella Valley Firebirds defeated the Texas Stars 2-1 thanks to a strong performance from rookie goaltender Nikke Kokko and an overtime goal from Ben Meyers.

Matej Blümel added to his team-leading goal total (20) at 14:16 in the first period when he beat Kokko with a wrist shot from the left wing circle. The Stars would take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Firebirds outshot the Stars 10-5 in the second period, but neither team would score.Nikolas Brouillard tied the game 1-1 in the third with a slap shot from the top of the left wing circle that beat Stars goaltender Remi Poirier high blocker side. 

The Firebirds would end the game at 3:12 in overtime when Ryan Winterton connected a backdoor pass to Ben Meyers who slide it past a diving Poirier for the win.
