HENDERSON, Nev – The Henderson Silver Knights defeated the Colorado Eagles, 4-1, at home Saturday afternoon to kick off the weekend series. The Silver Knights scored four unanswered goals en route to their victory.
Colorado opened the scoring early in the first period off the stick of Spencer Smallman, his eighth of the year. Henderson halted the Eagles momentum halfway through the period with an odd goal from Lukas Cormier. Cormier’s shot from center ice appeared to be nothing more than a dump in, but a couple odd bounces off the corner stanchions found the puck in the back of the net.
Byron Froese took advantage off a clean breakaway from his own zone, beating Ivan Prosvetov on a nifty backhand shot. Henderson took the lead going into intermission, and would never lose it the rest of the game.
Sheldon Rempal and Jakub Brabenec would score the next two for the Silver Knights, respectively, with Rempal’s marking his 25th tally of the year. Brabenec netted his 5th on the empty net.
Isaiah Saville stopped 39 of 40 Colorado shots to earn first star of the game.
Henderson and Colorado will face off again Sunday afternoon, as the Knights will look to spoil the Eagles chances at a high seeding going into playoffs.
Currently, the 2nd through 7th seeds of the Pacific Division are separated by a total of five points. Prior to today, the Eagles sat fourth in the division, though tied with Tucson in points.
