ROANOKE, Va. – It was the last home game of the regular season for the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs against the Fayetteville Marksmen, who came to town for a Sunday afternoon game at the Berglund Center. It was a tense game as each team was playing for better position in the upcoming President’s Cup playoffs. Fayetteville would take a 5-3 win.

Roanoke started strong, outshooting the Marksmen with 14 of the 17 shots in the period. Dawgs Forward Austen Swankler notched the first goal of the game. By the end of the 1st, Fayetteville tied the score. The Dawgs struggled during the 2nd as Fayetteville dominated. By the end of the 2nd, the Marksmen had increased their lead to 4-1.

The Dawgs fought back in the 3rd period. Dawgs Tommy Munichiello scored two goals less than 15 seconds apart, bringing the Dawgs within one goal to tie. They fought back, outshooting the Marksmen 14-9. An empty net goal from Marksmen John Moncovich with 23 seconds left sealed their win.
