ROANOKE, Va. – The Berglund Center was full of joy on Black Friday, with fans celebrating the Star Wars and Stick it to Cancer Night. The Force was with the Rail Yard Dawgs, as they beat the Fayetteville Marksmen, 3-2.
Bryce Martin opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, giving the Dawgs an early lead. It was clear from the start that both teams were evenly matched. Roanoke held the Marksmen off until they capitalized on a power play early in the 2nd period. Tommy Munichiello put the Dawgs back in the lead late in the period. Before the period ended the Marksmen tie it all back up.
The third period had fans on the edge of their seats, as the rivalry between these teams heated up. Mac Jansen scored his game winning 90th career goal with 26 seconds left in the game. Dawg goalie Austyn Roudebush stopped 32 of 34 shots, while Fayetteville goalie Ryan Kenny stopped 29 of 32 shots. The night ended on an extremely high note. The Dawgs Star Wars jerseys were auctioned off, with 100% of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
