JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Icemen held their Ugly Sweater & Caroling Night on Saturday against the visiting Florida Everblades in their last home game before Christmas. The Everblades sent the game to overtime after coming back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game with less then five minutes left in the game. The Icemen took a 3-2 OT win thanks to a goal from Davis Koch.
The first period remained scoreless, with both teams playing a hard-fort game. Jacksonville had the slight edge, outshooting Florida 9-6. Brenden Harris lit the lamp for Jacksonville just two minutes into the second period with a one-timer shot on a pass from Logan Cockerill that deflected off an Everblades stick into the net. Brayden Hislop also picked up an assist for his first pro career point. Jacksonville’s second goal came from Ty Cheveldayoff at 12:34, who managed to get the puck past all the traffic in front of the net. Derek Lodermeier assisted in his first game back with the Icemen, having re-signed with the team earlier that day. During the middle stanza, Jacksonville controlled the play and outshot Florida 14-9.
Jacksonville held onto the 2- advantage just past the halfway point of the third period. Florida piled on the pressure, which paid off with a goal by Oliver Chau on a shot from the left circle at 10:11. Marc-Andre Gaudet tied the game up for Florida at 16:37.
Both teams had several chances during the OT period, with Matt Vernon and Cam Johnson continuing to keep the puck out of their respective nets. Davis Koch scored the game-winning goal at 4:46 on a pass from Liam Coughlin, who had circled the Florida net and swung a centering pass to Koch who sent it home for the victory.
Jacksonville will play on the road for their next three games, with the first one against the Orlando Solar Bears on Wednesday. Their next home game will be on Friday December 27th, against the South Carolina Stingrays. The Everblades will face the Stingrays at home this coming Friday.
