INDEPENDENCE, Mo.- The Kansas City Mavericks, winner of the ECHL’s Brabham Cup for being the points leader in the regular season, and the Florida Everblades met on Friday night at the Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Mo., for game one of the 2024 Kelly Cup Finals. The Everblades are going for a third consecutive Kelly Cup Championship, and the Mavericks are playing in their first Finals series in franchise history.

The game was anything but exciting for the home crowd as the Everblades scored first at 3:00 of the first period. The Mavericks scored their only goal three minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. Everblades forward Oliver Chau put the Everblades ahead on an unassisted breakaway goal at 15:55. The Everblades would add four more goals before Mavericks starting goalie, Cale Morris, was replaced at the start of the third period. Jack LaFontaine started the third and stopped nine of ten shots he faced. Cam Johnson continued his solid play in net for the Everblades, making 34 of 35 saves. The Everblades won game one 8-1. I write for and photograph the Florida Everblades for ITR. I am a retiree that has turned my hobby of photography into a business. I currently live in Sarasota, Florida with my wife, Christy, but I'm originally from California. My previous career has taken me all over the US and the world and I definitely enjoy traveling. I've played hockey for over 30 years, learning as an adult, and love the game.
