NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Florida Everblades 3-2 in a shootout Friday afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum. Stingray goals were scored by Micah Miller and Justin Nachbaur, while Austin Magera scored the winning goal in the shootout. Goalie Seth Eisele stopped 21 of 23 shots to earn the win.
Miller opened the scoring for South Carolina with a power-play goal in the first period. Miller received a pass from Connor Moore and scored his 12th goal of the season. At the end of the period, the Stingrays led 1-0. The Everblades tied the game 6:57 into the second period on a goal from Craig Needham, who beat Eisele on a one-timer. About six minutes later, Florida’s Colin Theisen grabbed a rebound to make it 2-1. A little over a minute later, the Stingrays tied the game when Nachbaur fired a shot over the shoulder of Florida goalie Cam Johnson for his second goal in two games.
There were several chances in the third period and overtime, but the game was still tied and had to go to overtime, followed by a shootout. After five rounds of skills competition, Magera’s shot found its way past Johnson’s blocker to win the extra point for the Stingrays.
