
ROCKFORD, Ill.- Saturday night at the BMO Center, the Rockford IceHogs played the Grand Rapids Griffins for the second game of a home-and-home weekend series. The IceHogs were hoping to get two points closer to clinching a playoff spot after falling to the Griffins on Friday night in Grand Rapids, but would fall again losing 7-5.
The Griffins would take a 1-0 lead on the only goal during the first period by Amadeus Lombardi. The Griffins’ Austin Watson and Antti Tuomisto both had goals in the second period. Zach Sanford scored his first goal of the game for the IceHogs, to end the period down 3-1
The third period would see a total of eight goals scored, with each team scoring four a piece. It started with Jalen Luypen scoring a shorthanded goal 52 seconds into the the period for the Icehogs. Amadeus Lombardi scored his second goal of the game on the power play for the Griffins, and Emmitt Finnie, Dominik Shine and Austin Watson all scored goals each. Watson’s goal would be an empty netter in the final minutes of the game. The IceHogs Zach Sanford added two more goals for a hat trick and Gavin Hayes would also add a goal.
