
CEDAR PARK, Texas. – The visiting Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Texas Stars 6-4 Tuesday night at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park. With the win, the Griffins now have sole possession of second place in the Central Division.
Amadeus Lombardi opened the scoring 7:31 into the first period when he wrapped around the net and buried a wrist shot past Stars goaltender Remi Poirier, giving the Griffins an early 1-0 lead. Nate Danielson added to the Griffins’ lead with a shot from the high slot that ricocheted off the post and Poirier’s back and in. The Griffins took a two-goal lead into the first intermission.
Arttu Hyry put the Stars on the board at 11:49 in the second period when he snapped a centering pass from Kole Lind past Sebastian Cossa cutting the Griffins’ lead to one. The Stars would score just over two minutes later when Matej Blümel beat Cossa with a wrist shot high glove side, tying the game 2-2. Texas-native Cross Hanas regained the lead for the Griffins with a breakaway shot that beat Poirier blocker side giving the Griffins a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Blümel would record his second goal of the night just one minute into the third period, tying the game 3-3 with a quick backhand shot. Joe Snively put the Griffins back on top when on the powerplay, he put a slapshot from the point past a heavily screened Poirier giving the Griffins a 4-3 lead. Brogan Rafferty added to the lead with a wrist shot from the right circle. Kyle McDonald cut the Griffins’ lead to one with a sharp-angle wrist shot from the bottom of the right wing circle that bounced five hole on Cossa. Carter Mazur capped off the night with an empty net goal with only 11 seconds remaining in the game.
