
CEDAR PARK, Texas. – Wednesday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Grand Rapids Griffins 5-2 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Amadeus Lombardi put the Griffins on the board 3:50 into the first period when he batted in a rebound off Stars goaltender Magnus Hellberg’s right pad, giving the Griffins an early 1-0 lead. Matej Blümel continued his goal streak with a laser of a wrist shot that beat former Stars goaltender, Jack Campbell, high glove side tying the game 1-1. The Griffins would regain the lead with a shorthanded goal when Carter Mazur stuffed a backhand shot past Hellberg giving the Griffins a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Kyle Looft would tie the game 6:38 into the second period with his first professional goal when he roofed a backhand shot past a diving Campbell. The two teams would go into the second intermission tied 2-2.
Arttu Hyry gave the Stars their first lead of the night 5:49 into the third period when, shorthanded, he tapped in a rebound off a Blumel wrist shot, giving the Stars a 3-2 lead. Hyry recorded his second goal of the night and provided the Stars an insurance goal when he put a wrist shot from the right wing faceoff circle just over the glove hand of Campbell, giving the Stars a 4-2 lead. Curtis McKenzie capped off the night with an empty-net goal with just over a minute remaining in the game.
