SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Greenville Swamp Rabbits took on the Savannah Ghost Pirates at the Enmarket Arena on Sunday afternoon, with the home team holding their Florida Panthers affiliation weekend. Savannah wore specialty “Ghost Panthers” jerseys and tossable white rats were distributed to fans to throw post game. After sixty minutes of play, the Ghost Panthers won with a score of 6-3. Reece Vitelli was the #1 star having scored two goals and adding an assist, during the game.
Bryce Brodzinski opened up the scoring for Greenville during the first period, with Savannah unable to get on the board during the period. Austin Saint expanded the lead to two for Greenville, with a short-handed goal in the second period. Reece Vitelli decreased the deficit to one, later into the frame, with Will Riedell tying it up 42 seconds before the buzzer ended the period.
During the third period, Savannah used Greenville’s fatigue from skating with just ten forwards and six defenders. Reece Vitelli scored his second of the night on a shorthanded goal eight minutes into the period, breaking the tie and putting Savannah up 3-2. However, Parker Berge was able to even the score up for the Swamp Rabbits three minutes later. The tie didn’t last long as Savannah’s Devon Paliani grabbed two, back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart, for a 5-3 lead.
With less than two minutes left in the game, the Swamp Rabbits pulled their netminder Dryden McKay for the extra attacker, but the home team’s Liam Walsh capitalized, scoring an empty net goal from Ross Armour‘s forecheck at center ice, and ruining any comeback chances for Greenville.
