PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence Bruins ended their season on a high note, beating the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-2. Trevor Kuntar opened the scoring in the first for Providence with a backhanded beauty. Hartford’s Jake Leschyshyn and Blake Hillman would answer, scoring two goals in under two minutes to end the first.
Georgii Merkulov would open the scoring in the second, netting his 29th goal of the season. Nick Zabaneh scored the eventual game-winner, banging home the rebound from a Patrick Brown shot. Zabaneh would earn the first star of the game, scoring his first professional goal in his first professional game. Merkulov scored into the empty net, recording his 30th goal on the season. Merkulov becomes the first player since 2015-2016 to score 30 goals in a season for Providence, capping off another impressive regular season. Providence is off to the playoffs with a bye this upcoming weekend. They will be in action again for the Atlantic Division semifinals, with their opponent still TBD.
