CEDAR PARK, Texas – Saturday night, the visiting Henderson Silver Knights defeated the Texas Stars 5-4 thanks to a pair of goals from Tanner Laczynski and a 43-save performance from goaltender Carl Lindbom.
A power play goal from Robert Hägg just 3:49 into the first period put the Silver Knights up 1-0 and gave the Knights their first lead of the weekend. The lead wouldn’t last long as Christian Kyrou put a wrist shot from the high slot past Lindbom to tie the game 1-1. The Knights regained the lead just over a minute later when Christoffer Sedoff put a slap shot past a heavily screened Remi Poirier. The Stars would end the first period with a goal from Justin Hryckowian who collected a big rebound in the slot and wristed it past Lindbom, making it 2-2.
The Knights went up 3-2 just 48 seconds into the second period when Tanner Laczynski blasted a snap shot from the left circle past Poirier. Just over a minute later the Knights extended their lead to two when Matt Sapovaliv went undefended into the slot and buried a wrist shot blocker side on Poirier. Kyle McDonald added to his career power play goals when he put a backdoor pass from Kole Lind past Lindbom making it 4-3. Laczynski netted his second goal of the game with a Pavelski-esque deflection from the center of the slot giving the Knights a 5-3 lead into the second intermission.
The Stars turned up their shot count in the third with 22 shots on goal. Unfortunately, for them they were only able to get one past Lindbom when Kole Lind gathered a loose puck from the edge of the crease and lifted it to the top left corner of the net. The puck quickly bounced out, and play briefly continued. After review, it was determined to be a good goal. After killing off a high-sticking penalty from Kyle Looft the Stars tried to mount a comeback with just 64 seconds left, but the Knights defense held strong and they went on to win 5-4.
Carl Lindbom stopped 43 of 47 shots for the win.
Remi Poirier stopped 22 of 27 in the loss.
