ROANOKE, Va. – Fresh off Thursday night’s win in Huntsville, Roanoke outlasted the Havoc on home ice. The overtime win of 4-3, closed out the double header with the first place Huntsville Havoc.

In a very physical game, it was Huntsville that scored first. Several calls made by the referees were loudly, and physically contested by both teams and fans throughout the game. The first major altercation between teams was over an uncalled high stick. This resulted in 12 penalty minutes for Roanoke Captain Nick Ford. Huntsville’s Connor Fries had 12, and Terry Ryder had 4. This gave the Dawg’s a double minor power play. Roanoke’s Tommy Munichiello netted the goal with a long range shot, which tied the game up, 1-1.

The second period was filled with more excitement. This time it was Huntsville’s Craig McCabe. He received a 5 minute major for spearing, plus a game misconduct. Terry Ryder joined him with 71 seconds left in the power play, making it a five-on-three. Roanoke created a 2-1 lead when Nick Ford netted a power play goal.

The excitement and penalties slowed down in the third period, but overtime was needed to finish the game. With 26 seconds left in the overtime, Roanoke’s Mac Jansen scored the winning goal. Roanoke goalie, Austyn Roudebush saved 27 of 30 shots, while Huntsville goalie Brian Wilson stopped 31 of 35 shots. Roanoke has now won 11 of their last 14 games.
