ORLANDO, Fla. – The Jacksonville Icemen traveled down to the Kia Center on Friday to face the Orlando Solar Bears, who held their Underwear Toss night. Tied up at one apiece after 60 minutes of regulation time, Jacksonville prevailed with a 2-1 overtime win.
Fans eagerly awaited Orlando’s first goal of the night so that they could throw their unused sealed underwear onto the ice. But after a scoreless two periods, fans were made to wait until 2:36 of the third period, when Jimmy Mazza scored for Orlando, triggering the throwing of the underwear onto the ice. Davis Koch would tie the game up 1-1 at 11:40 of the third period, but with Jacksonville’s netminder Justen Close and Orlando’s Alexis Gravel making some stellar saves the entire night, the game went to overtime. With 42 seconds left in the OT period, Davis Koch scored his second of the night, giving Jacksonville the win.
Jacksonville will face the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at home on Saturday evening, while Orlando will face the South Carolina Stingrays in North Charleston on Sunday afternoon.
