ROANOKE, Va. – The Knoxville Ice Bears came into Roanoke looking to sweep the weekend against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. The Rail Yard Dawgs denied the Ice Bears with a crushing 9-2 victory Friday night.
The Rail Yard Dawgs made their intentions clear when Joe Widmar scored in the first two minutes of the game. Carson Gallagher, Austen Swankler, Jacob Kelly, and Nick Ford all followed his lead. They would end the explosive first period with an impressive score of 5-0. Knoxville went into the second period, with determination, as got on the scoreboard with a goal from Jason Brancheau. That goal was answered by Roanoke’s Tommy Munichiello in the final four seconds of the period. The Dawgs continued their domination in the third period, with Matt O’Dea scoring in less than a minute. Roanoke captain, Nick Ford notched two more in the third for a hat trick. That third goal was also as his 50th for the season. Knoxville goaltender Stephen Mundinger was pulled, and Talor Joseph would finish the night in net for the Ice Bears.
Roanoke goalie Austyn Roudebush saved 24 of 26 shots faced. Stephen Mundinger stopped 24 of the 33 shots faced, and Joseph stopped the two shots he faced.
