ROANOKE, Va. – It was the second of a weekend double header at the Berglund Center on Saturday, with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs facing the Knoxville Ice Bears. Just over 7500 screaming fans cheered their Rail Yard Dawgs to victory with a 4-1 win, to sweep the two-game series.

It was another first period dominated by the Dawgs, who scored first with Andrew Harley’s goal. That was closely followed by Carson Gallagher. The second period saw the teams come on the ice with much more tension in the air. Both teams would score, maintaining the two goal cushion going into the third period. Early in the third, tensions boiled for a combined 26 penalty minutes between four players. Neither team would notch a goal by the time the penalties were over. Knoxville pulled their goalie in the final minutes of the period. This enabled Roanoke’s Jacob Kelly to score with 15 seconds left in the game.

Ice Bears goalie Talor Joseph stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced for the night. Dawgs goaltender Austyn Roudebush became Roanoke’s newest hero, appropriately on Superhero night! He stopped 25 of 26 shots faced, winning his 100th game! He is just the third goalie in SPHL history to do so.
