ROANOKE, Va.- It was a back-to-back weekend series for the Rail Yard Dawgs, as the Knoxville Ice Bears visited the Berglund Center for games on Friday and Saturday.

Friday night’s “Baseball Night” game started off fast and furious, setting a franchise record for most goals in a game, 12-3. Highlights from the scoring include a four point hat trick from team captain Mac Jansen, Anthony Cinato notching one goal and two assists in his pro-debut, and C.J. Stubbs tying the franchise record for most points in a game, with one goal and four assists. The first period alone saw six goals on the board for the Dawgs. Knoxville tried to stop the shots by switching goalies, but nothing could stop the Dawgs momentum.

That is until Saturday night. With Roanoke’s 2-1. Loss in overtime, not even the excitement from the yearly Weiner Dog Races could help. Knoxville’s goalie Riley Morris had returned from a loan to the ECHL and started the game. The Dawgs had a sluggish start, and could only notch one goal in the third period thanks to Alex DiCarlo, creating a tie. Overtime saw the Ice Bears’ Troy Murray break the tie two minutes into the period. The saga of these two rivals will continue next weekend in Knoxville.
