ROANOKE, Va. – It was Game 2 in Round 1 of the 2025 Presidents Cup Playoffs on Friday. The 3rd seed Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs welcomed the 6th seed Knoxville Ice Bears to the Berglund Center. The Dawgs were fresh off their Game 1 win in Knoxville earlier in the week. The outcome was not what they wanted though, loosing 2-0 to the Ice Bears, forcing Game 3 Saturday night.

The Dawgs had a slow start, despite outshooting the Ice Bears 14-5 in the first period. Knoxville goalie Stephen Mundinger stopped all of the 44 shots he faced, by the end of the game. He was a veritable brick wall, despite the Dawgs efforts throughout the game. Dawgs goalie Austyn Roudebush was spectacular in the net as well, stopping 16 of the 18 shots he faced. The Dawgs just couldn’t make things mesh for their plays. The fans loudly expressed their displeasure with the calls, or lack of calls, from the refs, especially when calling a “no goal” on the Dawgs. It was on a Dawgs power play, with an Austen Swankler redirect that apparently didn’t cross the line. It was close enough that the lights came on, and cheers rang out. After a chat with the goal judge, all the refs declared “no goal”. This set the tone for the rest of the game.
