ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Friday night at Blue Cross Arena the Rochester Americans hosted the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. This game was also Military Salute Night with the Amerks sporting some slick uniforms for the occasion. The Phantoms got the 3-2 win, but not without a tough battle from the Amerks, as the game was decided in the shootout.
Ethan Samson scored the lone goal in the first period for the Phantoms. The Amerks were unable to capitalize on a couple of minor penalties the Phantoms committed. The second period saw no scoring, but both teams gave up a minor for tripping.
Josh Dunne evened things up for the Amerks in the third period. Shortly after that, the Phantoms gave up a minor penalty, but scored a shorthanded goal from Brendan Furry. With less than a minute left in the game, Brett Murray scored for the Amerks with the goalie pulled.
In overtime, Isak Rosen got a breakaway and put himself, the puck, and the goalie into the net. The play was originally called a good goal, but after the refs discussed the play, it was deemed to not be a good goal.
In the shootout, Rosen scored in the third round, but Samu Tuomaala evened things up for the Phantoms. The Amerks did not score in the fourth round, and Rodrigo Adols scored for the Phantoms – but not without the refs reviewing the footage. The shot from Adols bounced out of the net as if it had hit the crossbar, but after review the refs decided it bounced out of the back of the net.
Parker Gahagen got the win for the Phantoms, stopping 30 of 32 shots faced. Devon Levi also stopped 30 of 32 shots faced for the Amerks.
