ROANOKE, Va. – The Macon Mayhem rolled into the Berglund Center Friday, for the first game in a double header against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. A chance at a spot in the President’s Cup playoffs was on the line for the Mayhem. The Dawgs took the win at 6-5, in overtime.

Macon opened up the 1st period, holding nothing back. Barely five seconds into the game, gloves were dropped. Roanoke’s John Macdonald received his fifth fighting major of the season, as he took on Macon’s Jake Maynard. That set the tone for the rest of the game. Fans loudly let the refs know their distaste at calls, or lack thereof, quite frequently. Both teams answered each other with their goals. Dawgs forward Austen Swankler and defenseman John Macdonald both scored less than 25 seconds apart, in the 2nd period. Macon answered with two quick goals of their own, courtesy of Jake Goldowski and Zack Nazzarett. It was this type of strong play that led the teams into overtime. In true “cardiac canines” fashion, Dawgs Stephen Alvo got the winning goal with 12 seconds left in the overtime period.
