WORCESTER, Mass.- Sunday afternoon the Worcester Railers hosted the Maine Mariners, in the final game of a three-in-three weekend for the Railers. The Mariners, coming off a 2-1 road loss to Trois-Rivieres the day before, were jump-started off to a quick lead on a goal by ex-Railer Jimmy Lambert, making it 1-0 at 2:27 of the opening period. Shortly after, the Mariners would push the lead to 2-0, on a power play goal by Adam Mechura, which ended the scoring in the first period.

Chase Zieky would get the only goal in the second period, coming at 9:13, giving the Mariners a commanding 3-0 advantage. The Railers seemed to generate some life, and maybe the spark they needed before the end of the second period. In the main event of a 10 player square off, Worcester’s Ryan Verrier would provide that spark with a fight with Gabe Guertler. Although Verrier appeared to have the upper hand, Guertler was ejected for being the aggressor of the fight.

In the third period, the Railers made it a closer game, with their first goal coming off a close-in shot by Andrei Bakanov at 6:24. Anthony Callin made it a one-goal game at 3-2, scoring with Worcester goalie Tristan Lennox pulled for an extra skater with 3:20 left in the game. The Mariners would shut down the Railers for the remainder of the game, taking the 3-2 victory back to Maine.

The three stars of the game were: First star- Brad Arvanitis- Maine, Second star- Anthony Callin- Worcester, Third star- Chase Zieky- Maine.
