CEDAR PARK, Texas. – Friday night, the Texas Stars defeated the Manitoba Moose 5-3 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.
Kyle Capobianco put the Stars on the board first, 8:42 into the first period, with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that beat a screened Manitoba goaltender, Domenic DiVincentiis. Capobianco put the Stars up 2-0 just over 4 minutes later, this time with a wrist shot from the left-wing circle. Cameron Hughes added to the Stars’ lead with a power-play goal. Hughes collected the puck along the left wing boards, skated to the top of the crease, deked forehand, and then lifted a backhand shot past the glove hand of DiVincentiis. Axel Jonsson-Fjällby answered back with a shorthanded goal. Jonsson-Fjällby tipped a pass at the Manitoba blueline, then, on a breakaway beat Stars goaltender Magnus Hellberg with a snapshot from the slot, high blocker side. Justin Hryckowian regained the Stars’ 3-goal lead less than a minute later, while on the power play, he received a pass at the top of the crease and buried a wrist shot past the blocker of DiVincentiis. The Stars would take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.
Ben King would score the lone goal in the second period to cut the Stars’ lead to just 2. King received a pass in the left-wing circle and put a wrist shot past Hellberg.
Fabian Wagner would bring the Moose to within 1 goal early in the third period with a wrist shot from the top of the crease. The two teams would battle in an evenly matched third period until Hryckowian secured the victory for the Stars in the final minute of the game with an empty-netter for his second goal of the night.
