TORONTO, ON. – The second annual “Battle on Bay Street” saw the Toronto Scepters hosting the New York Sirens at Scotiabank Arena in Downtown Toronto on Saturday afternoon.
The Scepters came out strong in this one and didn’t let up. They were first to get on the board with a tip-in goal from Hannah Miller, and despite the close game, remained on top throughout with a final score of 4-2 for the home team.
Miller would score another later in the game to total six goals on the season and Sarah Nurse would break a bit of a pointless streak with the game-winning goal late in the third.
But the real story of the night was a win for women’s sports. Big sellouts like this one – totaling over 19,000 fans – have become the norm for the league. After the game Toronto forward, Nurse, explained that this season has felt much more about the hockey and less about the records, in a good way.
She said, “It felt like last year, every game, they were breaking a new record, but now, it’s just what they do! “
