WORCESTER, Mass. – On Friday evening, the Worcester Railers faced off against the Newfoundland Growlers, in game two of the three-game set heading into the Easter weekend. As it turns out, they needed another third-period comeback, after falling behind 2-0 at the end of two periods. Grant Cruikshank scored 1:17 into the game putting the Growlers up 1-0 in the first period, the only goal of the period. The score stayed 1-0 until the 9:20 mark of the second, when Zach O’Brien would tip a shot past John Muse, making 2-0 Growlers at the end of two periods. Heading into the third period, the desperate Railers knew they would have to come out strong and carry the play, to give them a chance to win. It would be Anthony Callin who ignited the spark that set the Railers on fire, scoring at 4:57, making it a new game at 2-1. With Worcester goalie John Muse coming up with some key saves to keep the game close, Blade Jenkins would tie the game at 2-2 on a power play goal with 8:15 to play in the third period. Less than two minutes later Reece Newkirk would put the Railers up 3-2 at 13:44. Despite numerous opportunities to ice the game with the Newfoundland goalie pulled, the Railers could not put the puck in the net, but were able to hold off the Growlers from scoring the tying goal before the regulation horn sounded.
The three stars of the game were all from Worcester, #1- Blade Jenkins, #2- Reece Newkirk (GWG), #3- John Muse (30 shots-28 saves).
