The goal was Blümel’s thirty-second goal of the season, a new career record. Jack Becker put the Stars up by two with a quick shot from the slot that beat Copley high glove side. Kyle Looft extended the Stars’ lead to three with 16 seconds left in the period when he tapped in a rebound off an Alexander Petrovic shot that hit the far side post and bounced out to the low slot. The Stars took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
Charles Hudon cut the Stars’ lead to one with two goals in the first eight minutes of the second period. Despite Ontario out-shooting the Stars 21-4 in the second period, the Stars would take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
After an evenly matched eighteen minutes and twenty-seven seconds of play in the third period that saw both teams put nine shots on net, Justin Hryckowian secured the victory for the Stars with an empty-net goal followed by a second empty-net goal by Blümel, who was awarded the goal after getting slashed on a breakaway.
