KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Knoxville Ice Bears bounced back Saturday night with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the league-leading Peoria Rivermen at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. After falling to Peoria on Friday, Knoxville came out determined to even the weekend series.

The first period was a defensive battle, with neither team generating many shots or quality chances. That changed early in the second when Tyler Williams took a long pass from Brendan Dowler and buried a wrist shot to put Knoxville up 1-0. Just three minutes later, Mitch Atkins added another, giving the Ice Bears a 2-0 lead heading into the final period.

Peoria made a late push, cutting the lead to one with just under five minutes remaining. But Knoxville’s defense held firm down the stretch, locking in the win over the league’s top team.
