JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Saturday night, the Jacksonville Icemen faced the Savannah Ghost Pirates in Game 2 of a back-to-back preseason series. Both games took place at the Community First Igloo, which is the Icemen’s headquarters and practice facility. Savannah came away with a 5-1 victory, identical to the previous nights score, to sweep the preseason matchup. The previous two season’s both teams have split the series.
Due to some player injuries and being sent a number of players from their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, Savannah was playing with their core group of players, who will probably be in their opening night lineup. Jacksonville fans can relax, as newly promoted Head Coach Brandon Mashinter sat out several of his key players during both games.
Jacksonville will host their season opener against the three time back-to-back winners of the Kelly Cup, the Florida Everblades on Saturday October 19th at the Veterans Arena.
