HERSHEY,Pa. – The game at the GIANT Center delivered an exciting matchup, though it ended in disappointment for the Hershey Bears, who fell 4-1 to the Providence Bruins. Providence’s goaltender Bussi showcased remarkable skill, turning away 26 shots from the Bears and frustrating them with four shots hitting the crossbars. Hershey’s performance was marred by undisciplined play, accumulating nine penalties, and conceding two powerplay goals.
First Period: Hershey started with a strong push, peppering Bruins’ goaltender Bussi with shots right from the puck drop. Despite their efforts, Bussi stood firm in the crease. The Bruins’ Megna capitalized on a power play opportunity at 16:07, beating Hershey’s Clay Stevenson to take a 1-0 lead. Hershey found a glimmer of hope when Day Drew scored at 19:12.
Second Period: The intensity escalated as both teams engaged in physical play. Unfortunately for Hershey, they began to unravel. The Bruins’ Callahan found the back of the net at 2:05, exploiting Stevenson’s five-hole to put the Bruins up 2-1. Tensions boiled over, leading to chirping and scuffles on the ice. Providence’s Richard extended the lead to 3-1 at 11:26. A referee-missed call sparked further chaos, with Hershey players, feeling the need to defend themselves. The period was characterized by numerous scuffles and ended with a 4-1 lead for Providence after McLaughlin’s goal at 15:58.
Third Period: Despite the anticipation of a spirited comeback, Hershey couldn’t overcome the deficit they faced. Both teams played hard, but luck wasn’t on Hershey’s side as they hit the crossbars twice in four minutes. Bussi’s stellar glove work for the Bruins added to Hershey’s frustrations.
