ROANOKE, Va – A storm blew into the Berglund Center for a weekend of games. The Quad City Storm came to town, after a long road trip, to meet the Rail Yard Dawgs on their home ice.
Friday night was the first of two games. The Storm wasted no time showing the Dawgs just how fast they could be, by scoring first. It was a two-on-one rush as the Storm’s Cole Golka hit the back of the net. The Storm would lead the way the rest of the game, winning 4-3. Roanoke had several power play chances, including a total of five in the third period alone. It just wasn’t the Dawgs’ day.
Saturday night was another story. It was Scooby-Doo Night, with the Dawgs wearing colorful jerseys with Scoob and his gang on the front. The Dawgs were out to win, ready for the Storm. The game started off much like the previous night, with Quad City starting things off. The Dawgs fought back, with captain Mac Jansen, assisted by Billy Roche, notching a goal in the last seconds of the first period, tying it up 1-1. That score held into overtime. Roanoke’s C.J. Stubbs shot the game winner about halfway through the overtime period, with a 2-1 score.
