WORCESTER, Mass.- The Worcester Railers opened their 2024-25 season at the DCU Center in Worcester Saturday, against a division rival Reading Royals team. The visiting Royals would capture their second win of their season, a 2-1 hard fought game win over the Railers. Prior to the game, a heartfelt and emotional tribute was presented by the Railers for former Railers and Royals player Matthew Gaudreau and also his brother, Johnny Gaudreau. Included in the tribute was a video on the jumbo board, Ice Logos behind the nets, a jersey raffle to benefit the family, and a 13 and 21 second delay at the opening puck drop. A game issued #21 Matthew Gaudreau jersey will be hung in honor near the Railers bench area during this season.

As for the game, the Railers would have Michael Bullion in net, with Keith Petruzzelli in net for the Royals. Worcester would score first on a goal from Connor Welsh at 19:08 of the first period. Logan Britt would tie the game in the second period, and the Royals would get the game winning goal in the third period from Tyler Gratton at the 12:59 mark.
