CEDAR PARK, Texas – Wednesday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Rockford IceHogs 5-3.
Lukas Reichel put Rockford on the board first with a powerplay goal at 12:02 in the first period. Rockford would take the 1-0 lead into the second period.
In the second period, Derrick Pouliot would tie the game when he had a wrist shot from the blue line deflected by a Rockford player and bounced past goaltender Drew Commesso, making it 1-1. The Stars would return the favor when a shot from David Gust bounced off a Stars player and past goaltender Remi Poirier, making it 2-1. Mavrik Bourque would tie the game 2-2 with a slapshot from the top of the goal crease. Curtis McKenzie gave the Stars their first lead of the night with only 2 seconds left in the period when he tapped in a pass from Bourque on the powerplay.
The Stars added to their lead in the third period when Jack Becker scored on a breakaway, putting them up 4-2. Rockford cut the lead to just one when Cole Guttman tipped in a pass from Rem Pitlick, making it 4-3. Curtis McKenzie would secure the victory for the Stars with an empty net goal in the last few minutes of the game.
