CEDAR PARK, Texas – Saturday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Rockford IceHogs 3-2 in a game that went to overtime, thanks to an incredible between-the-legs shot from Cameron Hughes.

Jack Becker put the Stars up 1-0 at 14:29 in the first period with a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that beat Rockford goaltender Mitchell Weeks, high blocker side. The Stars entered the first intermission after outshooting the IceHogs 13-8 and with a 1 goal lead.

In the second period, Rockfords’ Zach Sandford tied the game 1-1 with his first goal of the season when he jammed a bouncing puck past Magnus Hellberg. The Stars regained the lead 19 seconds later, when Curtis McKenzie playing in his 700th career game, beat Weeks with a wrist shot from nearly the same location as the first goal but this time high glove side. The Stars took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

After an evenly matched third period, Rockford would tie the game when they pulled their goalie with just 29 seconds remaining, and with the extra attacker Cole Guttman put a wrist shot past a heavily screened Hellberg, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime Cameron Hughes would score the game-winning goal in spectacular fashion with a goal that will most likely be a strong candidate for goal of the year when he received a pass from Matej Blümel at the top of the crease and with a btween-the-legs shot went bar down past Weeks and sealed a 3-2 victory for the Stars.
