WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and the Springfield Thunderbirds faced off Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena on UFO night.
The Thunderbirds took a 1-0 lead just 1:45 into the game on an unassisted goal by Jacob Hudson, his first of the season. Springfield held the lead until Tristan Broz tied the game at 13:32 of the first period. Just 20 seconds later Nolan Renwick gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead on his first goal of the season. The Penguins scored and insurance goal late in the second period when Atley Calvert scored his 7th of the season. Heading into the third period the Penguins had a 3-1 lead and were outshooting the Thunderbirds 33-13. Emil Benstrom put the game out of reach on an empty net goal with 1:31 left in the game, for a Penguins 4-1 victory.
