ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Friday’s match-up between the Syracuse Crunch and Rochester Americans was a nail-biter. The Amerks would come out victorious in overtime, with a 4-3 victory courtesy of Zach Metsa.
Brett Murry would get the scoring started three minutes into the game from an unassisted breakaway. A tight first period led to Waltteri Merelä of the Crunch getting a goal for his squad about ten minutes into the period.
In the second, the Crunch got ahead from a goal by Sean Day, but Murry would return the favor on the powerplay for the Amerks three minutes later. Syracuse served two minor tripping penalties in the second, and the Amerks had one for slashing.
A close third period led to the game going to overtime. Graham Slaggert of the Amerks and Gabriel Fortier of the Crunch were the goal scorers. The Amerks gave up one penalty in the third for interference, and the Crunch would give up a call for too many men, and another for hooking.
Fifty seconds into overtime Zach Metsa buried a goal in front of the net thanks to a great set-up from Isak Rosen.
Devon Levi would get the win for the Amerks, stopping twenty of twenty-three shots faced. Matt Tomkins of the Crunch stopped 22 of 26 shots faced.
Other notes from the game: the Bavarian pretzels still reign supreme, and I wonder how the guy who got denied on the kiss cam is doing?
