CEDAR PARK, Texas – Saturday night, the Texas Stars defeated the visiting Tucson Roadrunners 5-0 thanks to a 24 save shutout performance from Remi Poirier and three power play goals.
Curtis McKenzie gave the Stars a 1-0 lead late in the first period when he tapped in a backhand pass on a give and go play from Chase Wheatcroft. Kyle McDonald extended the Stars’ lead two minutes later with a one-timer from the slot that beat Matthew Villalta five-hole.
Emilio Pettersen made it 3-0 with a power play goal early in the second period. Matej Blümel gave the Stars their second power play goal of the night with a one-timer from right wing faceoff circle that beat Villalta far side and gave the Stars a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.
Gavin White scored the lone goal in the third period, the goal would be the Stars’ third power play goal of the night and his first at the AHL level.
