ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The sun was shining for a thrilling Sunday afternoon game between the Rochester Americans and Utica Comets. The Americans were hosting a Buffalo Bills theme night, rocking some beautiful jerseys for the occasion. After three competitive periods, the Americans would come out victorious, winning 4-1.
There was no scoring by either team in the first period, but a couple penalties were called against the Americans – goalie Michael Houser was called for delay of game, and Linus Weisbach for slashing.
In the second, the Americans would get the scoring started. Jeremy Davies scored his first of the night a few minutes into the period. Brett Murray scored a greasy one a couple minutes later on the power play. Brain Halonen of the Comets returned the favor on the power play a few minutes before the period ended.
An intense third period led to Isak Rosen scoring off a breakaway setup from Juri Kulich late in the period. The Comets pulled their goalie in the remaining minutes and Jermey Davies got his second goal of the night.
Houser stopped 19 of 20 shots faced and was awarded first star of the night. Nico Daws of the Comets stopped 20 of 23 shots faced.
This Sunday afternoon match was also host to 3-2-1 Weekend: $3 beers, $2 hot dogs, and $1 popcorn all game long. An incredible deal! The hot dogs might have been cold but the taste was still great.
