ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The league’s current top team, Rochester Americans, hosted the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Wednesday night at Blue Cross Arena. This was the final game of a five-game home stand for the Amerks, and they did not disappoint their fans, coming out victorious with a 5-2 win.
Ryan Johnson scored the first goal of the game of the Amerks – he scored his first just two games prior. The Pens gave up a minor penalty, and Amerks captain Mason Jobst was able to find the back of the net. Later in the period, Nicolas Aube-Kubel got a breakaway and buried it, with goaltender Devon Levi getting the sole assist, ending the period up 3-0.
About halfway through the second, Marc Johnstone and Graham Slaggert dropped the gloves. Both received a five minute fighting penalty. The second period only saw one goal – this time coming from the Pens Rutger McGroarty, who found the back of the net at the 14:16 mark.
Noah Ostlund scored just over a minute into the third period for the Amerks. Boris Katchouk responded for the Pens shortly after, but they were not able to mount a comeback. Isak Rosen scored an empty netter for the Amerks, with just over a minute left on the clock to seal the win.
Devon Levi continued his all star season, stopping 28 of 30 shots faced, and collected an assist for the Amerks. Tristan Jarry stopped 31 of 35 shots faced for the Pens.
