PORTLAND, Maine. – On Saturday, the Maine Mariners faced off against the Worcester Railers on Hockey Fights Cancer night. Maine took the decisive 3-1 victory over Worcester after a great performance from goaltender Nolan Maier, who had 31 saves, 1 GA, a .968 SV%, and some timely stops in the final minutes.

Mariner’s Justin Bean started the scoring early, putting his team ahead 1-0 just 5:04 minutes into the game. Immediately after the goal at the next puck drop, Mariner’s captain Wyllum Deveaux and Worcester’s Lincoln Hatten dropped the gloves and got the crowd roaring.

Jacob Hudson added to Maine’s lead in the second period, but Worcester responded soon after with a goal from Riley Ginnell. Going into the third period up 2-1, Maine’s Xander Lamppa scored the final goal of the night just two minutes in. The Mariner’s ended up on the penalty kill in the last few minutes of the game. The Railers pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, but Maier made some key saves on a handful of quality shots and helped the Mariner’s penalty killers finish the game.
