SAVANNAH, Ga. – After falling to the Savannah Ghost Pirates on Friday, the Worcester Railers returned to Enmarket Arena on Saturday night with renewed intensity, securing a 4-2 victory in the second game of Savannah’s Hockey Fights Cancer weekend.
The Railers came out strong in the opening period, dictating the pace and striking twice; including a power-play goal from Matthew Kopperud. Savannah struggled to match Worcester’s energy early on, allowing the visitors to control much of the play.
The second period saw continued dominance from Worcester as they capitalized on defensive breakdowns and tested goaltender Keith Kinkaid, ultimately forcing the Ghost Pirates to make a mid-game switch in net. The Railers extended their lead before Savannah found some momentum, beginning to mount a comeback.
As fatigue set in during the third period, both teams slowed the pace, but tensions remained high. A heated exchange between Patrick Guay and Kopperud escalated into a fight, capping off an impressive night for Kopperud, who finished the game with two goals and a spirited scrap. Despite Savannah’s push, the third period remained scoreless, and the Railers held firm to secure the 4-2 win. At the final buzzer, Worcester goaltender Hugo Ollas celebrated with an emphatic jump, marking a hard-fought victory and a successful response after Friday’s loss.
