Pittsburgh Penguins Acquire Matt Dumba From Dallas Stars

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars agreed to a trade this afternoon, as the Dallas Stars are trading defenseman Matt Dumba to the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Stars are also sending a 2028 second-round draft pick to the Penguins, all in exchange for defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok. The trade made sense for the Penguins, who had ten left-handed defensemen under contract for the 2025-26 season.

Matt Dumba

Dumba, in 63 games with the Stars last season, recorded ten points on a goal and nine assists. He was a minus-five with one power-play point and 60 penalty minutes. This coming season will be his 13th season in the NHL. In 737 career games, he has 258 points on 84 goals and 174 assists. He is a plus-six with 75 power-play points with 26 power-play goals, 16 game-winning goals, and 547 penalty minutes. Dumba won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2019-20.

Vladislav Kolyachonok

Kolyachonok spent last season with the Utah Hockey Club as well as the Penguins. In 32 games, he had seven points on two goals and five assists. He was a -12 with ten penalty minutes. Kolyachonok has played in 74 career NHL games, recording 14 points on four goals and ten assists. He is a career minus-seven with one game-winning goal and 18 penalty minutes. In 150 career AHL games, he has 48 points on 13 goals and 35 assists. He is a +12 with two power-play goals, a shorthanded goal, three game-winning goals, and 76 penalty minutes.
