On October 26th, 2024, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced they were sending Goaltender Tristan Jarry down to the AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on a conditioning loan.
Conditioning loans in the NHL are only for 14 days. NHL rule 13.8 states: “13.8 Conditioning Loan: Unless a Player consents, he shall not be Loaned on a Conditioning Loan to a minor league club. Such Conditioning Loan shall not extend for more than fourteen (14) consecutive days. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to investigate the circumstances under which a Player is Loaned on a Conditioning Loan. If the Commissioner has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Conditioning Loan to evade Waivers or otherwise Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take such disciplinary action against the Club as he deems appropriate. During the period of such Conditioning Loan, the Player shall continue to receive the same Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and be entitled to the same benefits that he would have received had he continued to play with the Club.”
Before the Penguins went on their four-game road trip, Jarry returned to Pittsburgh to work one-on-one with Penguins Director of Goaltending Jon Elkin. Jarry stated earlier this week:
“I want to be better. Those two or three games that I’ve had, I obviously was hoping for a better start and to play better games. That’s on myself. I just have to keep working, keep managing what I’m doing, and just work through it. A lot of video, a lot of teaching. Now, it’s just at the point of letting go and being myself and trying to be the best goalie moving forward.”

While on a conditioning loan with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jarry will work with new Head Coach Kirk MacDonald and Assistant Coaches Nick Luukko and Sheldon Brookbank. Wilkes-Barre is coming off of a loss to the Syracuse Crunch last night and playing a home game at Mohegan Sun Arena tonight at 6:05 pm against Syracuse.
