Who is Gabbie Hughes?

Gabbie Hughes was born on October 4th, 1999, in Lino Lakes, Minnesota, USA. Standing at 5-foot-8, Hughes is a talented forward known for her exceptional playmaking ability, hockey IQ, and competitive drive. She has made a significant impact at every level of her hockey career, from high school and college to international play, and now in the professional ranks with PWHL Ottawa.

Playing Style

Gabbie Hughes is known for her well-rounded game, blending strong offensive instincts with responsible two-way play. She excels at reading the game, making smart decisions with the puck, and creating scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. Hughes’ vision on the ice and ability to execute quick, accurate passes make her a dangerous playmaker. Just this past season Hughes was tied for second most scored goals on PWHL Ottawa.

Gabbie Hughes grew up in a hockey-loving family in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Surrounded by the sport from a young age, she quickly developed a passion for the game. Hughes played high school hockey at Centennial High School in Circle Pines, Minnesota, where she emerged as a standout player, known for her scoring touch and leadership on the ice. Her performance at the high school level earned her recognition as one of the top prospects in the state.
In the summer Hughes skated with Skate to Excellence, a program she’s also helped coach after aging out and is owned by her father Terry.

Collegiate Career

Gabbie Hughes took her talents to the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD), where she played for the Bulldogs from 2018 to 2022. During her time at UMD, Hughes became a dominant force in NCAA women’s hockey. She consistently led the team in points and was a driving force behind the Bulldogs’ offensive success, captaining the team in her final season.

Throughout her collegiate career, Hughes earned numerous accolades, including multiple All-WCHA honors. She was also a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the best player in NCAA women’s hockey. Hughes’ time at UMD was marked by her ability to make plays in crucial moments, her vision on the ice, and her commitment to team success. She helped lead the Bulldogs to several NCAA tournament appearances, leaving a lasting impact on the program.
