Jeffrey Truchon-Viel was born on January 28, 1997, in Rimouski, Quebec. During the 2013-14 season, Viel played for Antoine-Girourard Gaulois in the QMAAA and registered 22 goals and 23 assists in 42 regular season games. In the playoffs, the winger contributed one goal in three games and was teammates with fellow NHL player Mathieu Joseph of the St. Louis Blues.
In the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Draft, Viel was selected by the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the fourth round, 71st overall, and went pointless in eight games. For the next four seasons, Viel played for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and was captain for two of them. The left-shot forward scored 115 goals with 81 assists in 251 regular season games and chipped in 27 goals and 19 assists in 40 playoff games. Viel also registered over 100 penalty minutes in each of the four seasons.
On May 29, 2019, Viel signed an entry-level, two-year, $1.56 million contract with the San Jose Sharks and was assigned to the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League, where he scored 11 goals with 11 assists in 68 regular season games during the 2018-19 season. The next season as an assistant captain, Viel scored 13 goals, 17 assists, and 103 penalty minutes.
Jeffrey Viel’s NHL Debut to Today
On March 29, 2021, Jeffrey Viel made his National Hockey League debut with the San Jose Sharks against the Minnesota Wild and played 7:28 of ice time with one fighting major. Viel scored his first NHL goal on December 28, 2021, against the Arizona Coyotes. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward played 49 total games with San Jose, totaling three goals and two assists.
On July 1, 2024, Viel signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Boston Bruins and made his debut with Boston on November 18, 2024 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Viel began the 2024-25 season with the Providence Bruins of the AHL.
