Jordan Oesterle was born on June 25, 1992, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. The left-shot defenseman played one season for the Belle Tire 16U AAA team and scored five goals with 15 assists in 31 games during the 2008-09 season. The next year, Oesterle played 47 games for the Belle Tire 18U AAA club and scored five goals with 25 assists. In the 2010 USHL Draft, Oesterle was selected 26th overall in the second round by the Sioux Falls Stampede and played one season, scoring two goals with 13 assists in 54 regular season games and two goals and three assists in ten playoff games.
Oesterle committed to Western Michigan University and spent three seasons from 2011-2014 where he played 113 games. Oesterle scored seven goals with 27 assists in this collegiate career. On March 31, 2014, Oesterle signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers worth $1.85 million. The blue liner was assigned to the Oklahoma City Barons after his junior season at Western Michigan and scored one goal in four games.
Jordan Oesterle’s NHL Debut to Today
On February 21, 2015, Jordan Oesterle made his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers in a 2-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Oesterle played 16:34 of ice time over 20 shifts and collected two shots on goal with one hit. On March 3 of that year, Oesterle collected his first NHL point against the Los Angeles Kings with an assist.
In the summer of 2017, Oesterle signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks and scored his first NHL goal on December 29, 2017, against his former team, the Oilers. In July of 2018, Oesterle was traded to the Arizona Coyotes and played three seasons for them with ten goals and 34 assists. The defenseman signed with Detroit as a free agent on July 28, 2021, and played two seasons with the Red Wings, scoring four goals with 15 assists. On July 2, 2023, Oesterle signed with the Calgary Flames and split time with the NHL team and the AHL Wranglers.
On July 1, 2024, Oesterle signed a one-year deal with the Boston Bruins and has split time with the Bruins and the Providence Bruins of the AHL. Oesterle will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season.
