Mark Kastelic was born on March 11, 1999, in Phoenix, Arizona. Kastelic comes from a hockey family, as his father, Ed, played 210 career NHL games for the Washington Capitals and Hartford Whalers. His grandfather, Pat Stapleton, and his uncle, Mike Stapleton, each played in the NHL as well. Mark played two seasons for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes and totaled 41 goals and 40 assists in 88 total games.
In 2014, Kastelic was drafted by the Calgary Hitmen with the 41st overall pick in the second round of the Western Hockey League Draft. Kastelic played five seasons with the Hitmen, two as team captain. In total, Kastelic scored 126 goals with 109 assists in 321 games with Calgary.

Mark Kastelic was drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft with the 125th overall pick by the Ottawa Senators. Kastelic was ranked 182nd among North American skaters by Central Scouting at the time of the draft. The big center signed an entry-level, three-year contract with Ottawa worth $2.47 million on April 9, 2020, and played 31 games for the Belleville Senators of the American Hockey League during the 2020-21 season and scored four goals and six assists.
