Max Jones was born on February 17, 1998, in Rochester, Michigan. Jones comes from a hockey family as his father, Brad, played for three NHL teams (Winnipeg, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia). Max’s brother, Mitch, plays in the Federal Prospects Hockey League, and his cousin, Harrison Caines, is a forward at Nipissing University. Max played on the Honeybaked 13U AAA team with fellow NHL player Ben Gleason and scored 13 goals with 15 assists in 19 games during the 2011-12 season. The next season, Jones joined the Compuware 16U AAA hockey club and contributed five goals and eight assists in 20 games. The big forward played for the Honeybaked 18U AAA team during the 2013-14 season before joining the United States National Development Program.
Jones blossomed with the 17U USA team, registering 18 goals, 10 assists, and a whopping 189 penalty minutes in 38 games. Jones participated in the World Hockey Championships and scored seven goals with four assists in 11 games, earning All-Star team honors. In the 2014 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, Jones was the 18th overall pick by the London Knights.
In his first season with the Knights, Jones scored 28 goals with 24 assists in 63 games and followed that with 17 goals in 19 assists in 33 games during the 2016-17 season. Jones became a top draft prospect as a result.
The Anaheim Ducks Select Max Jones in the First Round of the 2016 NHL Draft
Max Jones was chosen 24th overall in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Anaheim Ducks. Jones played one more season in the OHL and participated in the 2018 World Junior Championships, winning a Bronze Medal with the USA. Jones signed a three-year, entry-level contract worth $2.59 million with the Ducks on August 26, 2016.
Max Jones’ NHL Debut to Today
On January 17, 2019, Max Jones made his NHL debut with the Ducks against the Minnesota Wild, playing 20 shifts in 12:22 of ice time and registering one shot on goal. Jones scored his first NHL goal on March 3, 2019, against the Montreal Canadiens. Jones played 258 career games with Anaheim, scoring 31 goals with 31 assists. On July 1, 2024, Jones signed a two-year, $2 million contract with the Boston Bruins and will vie for a roster spot with the Bruins during training camp entering the 2024-25 season.
