Tomasino signed his entry-level contract with the Preds and made his professional debut the following shortened season with the Chicago Wolves (AHL). He scored his first and second professional goals during the second game of the season and finished playing 29 games, scoring 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points and an impressive +20 rating. He also attended the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championships to represent Canada during this time. He was able to secure a Silver medal at the event.

Tomasino made his NHL debut with the Predators during the 2021-22 season. His numbers didn’t translate into the NHL immediately, as he finished his first 72 games in the NHL with 11 goals and 21 assists. Going into the 2022-23 season, Tomasino’s time was split between the Predators and the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) to help continue his development. He scored five goals and 13 assists through his 31 games, which was on track for a better pace than the previous season, but he had a much stronger showing in the AHL, scoring 12 goals and 20 points through 38 games.

Although he seemed to be progressing in both leagues, Tomasino’s numbers fell back in the 2023-24 season. In the AHL, Tomasino played in 22 games, scoring 11 goals and seven assists, and in the NHL, Tomasino played in 41 games, scoring only seven goals and 13 assists. His entry-level contract ended after the season, and the Predators signed him up for a one-year prove-it extension worth $825,000. After a string of being healthy scratched, playing 11 games, and only one assist to show for it, the Predators traded Tomasino to the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 25th for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.

Tomasino’s numbers have already returned to form in his six games with the Pens. He has scored three goals and an assist and seems to be meshing well with his new teammates. Catch Philip Tomasino in black and gold this season alongside his legendary teammates!
